*** TAKE ACTION ***

 Making a CyberTipline report.

The CyberTipline handles leads from individuals reporting the sexual exploitation of children, which may include the online "stalking" of a child. You can make a report to the CyberTipline at www.cybertipline.com or by calling 1.800.THE.LOST. If you know a child in immediate danger, call local law enforcement.

Internet Safety is an issue that affects everyone. However, children are especially at risk for online victimization.

Online Risks:

Predators will take advantage of the fact that children are generally more susceptible to the manipulation, intimidation, and grooming techniques used by predators. This is based upon the fact that some children lack emotional maturity, and often have a strong desire for attention, validation, and affection. There are various online risks:

1) Online predators seek out children as sexual targets. The victimization may be recorded and further distributed as child pornography.

2) Children can be the victims of online harassment. People can use the relative anonymity of the Internet to intimidate, threaten, embarrass, or otherwise harass a child.

3) There is a lot of age-inappropriate material that exists on the Internet, and this material is only a click away for a curious child.

Safety Tips:

1) Children should be aware of the above online risks, and should report any suspicious behavior or material to a trusted adult.

2) Parents should openly discuss online activities with their children, and should create clear, easy-to-read, house rules on using the Internet, which should be posted on or near the monitor.
